On-line Course: Design of Electrical Systems for Plants and Building Services

Expired

CPD 2 credits: Ref. No. SAIChE-424. Provider: E4A (SAIChE-SPV-004)

Includes numerous Sub-Courses such as Designing and Planning of Electrical Systems, Compliance and Safety, Lighting designs, Earthing and Bonding, Static Electricity, and Optimization with Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
This Course is a great overview to the practical side of electrical installations and is powerful tool for attendees to use in daily operations or indeed to prepare for the groundwork on a new project. Full of useful guidance!

This is our second IMPORTANT Course under electrical systems design and is presented at a level beneficial to all engineering disciplines and guides the Course attendees with lots of basic principles and many design guidelines and checklists.
This information packed Course enables those involved in design, projects and plant operations to assess the design requirements of Electrical Systems for Plants and Building Services. The Course is provided to especially assist non-electrical engineers on the first level of considerations of electrical supply design, to ensure that there is a sound assessment of the power supply to any project or plant at early stages of the total project design.

This Course also covers basic design of electrical supply systems for those engineers who need to prepare the first level of design of an electrical supply system to a new plant or process. The sub-courses cover important topics such as compliance and safety, earthing and bonding, as well as the basics of incoming supply voltages and general awareness of alternate sub-station arrangements.

The Course also provides an overview of key electrical equipment in plant power distribution systems including topics like Motor Control Systems (MMCs), Distribution Boards and various cable requirements. There is also a Sub-course on VSD selection and design information on VSD systems in industry. There is a short presentation of the main power equations of process equipment to enhance power savings. These are an interesting topic and seldom widely applied in industry, primarily due to lack of awareness of the economic benefits that can be achieved.
There is an interesting brief overview of solar energy also provided in a sub-course with interesting indications of new trends expected to be applied in industry in the near future.

The final summary is prepared as a series of DESIGN STAGES OR STEPS in a master chart with control checklists and the appropriate design approach. Interesting and unusual case studies are also presented.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

The main objective is to provide engineers with the fundamentals of the design of a sound electrical supply system and thereby to prepare for sound and safe operations of all equipment. E4A guides all attendees to prepare a basic design and then to consult with senior registered engineers on the final design details and safe operations review.

Economic benefits are achieved through the early and sound preparation of the main electrical layout details, thus limiting operational failures, faults and constraints in future operations.
